My wonderful pals Erik and Kristine from back home in Canada got engaged a little over a year ago (they’ve been married just over 6 months now). When I came back to Canada for my annual visit home last winter in 2019 we did a very quick trip out to a nearby forest to take some photos of two of them. It was incredibly cold (must’ve been -20C) so we didn’t stay out too long and the amount of snow on the ground made it a tiny bit hard to move around so we opted for lot’s of hugging photographs to stay warm but we still got some sweet and classic portraits nonetheless!
Some tips for keeping comfortable during a winter couples or engagement session
1. Bring lot’s of layers! This way you can dress down quickly for a few shots and put on your coats again for others.
2. Scarfs and blankets make for a fun prop while keeping you toasty warm!
3. Hand warmers are a godsend. Stick some in your pockets or mittens for a boost.
4. Hugging shots are super sweet and allow you to nuzzle up.
5. Or if you can, movement/playing around can also keep you warm!
Winter is such a magical time of year and snow can make for some truly wonderful images. Remember to stay warm and have fun :)
